Enamel: The hard, calcified, mineralized surface of the tooth that covers the crown. The hardest substance in the body.
Dentin: The part of the tooth directly under the enamel.
Cementum: The thin, bonelike structure that covers the root of the tooth.
Dentinoenamel Junction (DEJ): The junction of the enamel and dentin.
Cementoenamel Junction (CEJ): The anatomical location where the enamel and cementum meet.
Apex: The tip end of a root.
Periapical: The area that surrounds the tip of a tooth.
Interproximal: Referring to the area between two adjacent teeth. The interproximal area is highlighted here in yellow.
