Crown: The anatomical part of the tooth visible in the mouth.
Coronal: Referring to the crown portion of a tooth.
Root: The part of the tooth structure below the crown, normally surrounded by bone.
Radicular: Pertaining to the root of a tooth.
Anatomical crown: The portion of the tooth that is covered by enamel.
Clinical crown: The portion of the tooth that is visible and not covered by the gums. The clinical crown here is denoted by the light blue line.
Gingiva: Also known as the gums, the soft mucosal tissue that covers the jawbone and surrounds part of the teeth.
Supragingival: Above the gumline.
Subgingival: Below the gumline.
